Life is not perfect. We all know this is the truth and discover it early in life. Very few people are fortunate to get perfect homes. But those are the happiest that not only come to love their homes but also the quirky side of them. Learn to take the perfect with a touch of imperfection and enjoy and savor all these traits and see how everything suddenly turns beautiful- it’s only your attitude that needs to change and embrace the imperfections of your home. You will realize that there is no better place than ‘home sweet home’.
Real homes experience real life, after all, and that can leave its marks. In addition to scuffs, damages inflicted by daily use, your home can have a few hard wired imperfections, like a slopping roof, a narrow hallway or a dingy passage, a door that won’t shut properly or a faucet which is perpetually leaking in spite of the plumber attending it n number of times. All these are domestic imperfections that you can learn to live with and love your home. The mantra is to turn it into a dream home you have always pictured.
Some ideas will help you love the odd structure of your home and create something out of it that will make it look attractive.
Big up odd lines and angles- Don’t try to hide the odd angles or corners or the slopping ceiling; celebrate them instead. There is nothing you can do to hide a prominent slanting ceiling so focus on it rather than to draw attention away from it. Paint the adjoining wall in bold color so that the swooping lines look graceful. Find ways and means to make the best out of these odd angles so the room has its own uniqueness.
Go fully creative- Remember the source that caused the imperfection and it will bring back fond memories so savor the moment instead of finding faults. Make a real feature of a poor view, which can be perfected by a little thought and imagination. Your yard is small and you face a brick wall bring out the artist in you and turn it into a piece of art or put up a mural, anything to make it lovable and interesting.
Add some plants- There is nothing like a bit of natural vegetation this really draws the attention from your imperfections and gives a look of the old world charm. Outside try growing trailing plants to hide that wonky wall or peeling paint, indoors add potted plants to give your home layers of colors and hide any flaws.
Celebrate the memories- Life, its dramas, meals, family get together all the daily activities that went on within the four walls will make you forget the imperfections and remind of the happy times and forget the imperfections. Smother one wall with family photographs to keep the memories alive.
A beautifully finished home is something we yearn for, but there is lot to be said about a ‘real’ home that speaks who you are. So take pride in your homes every detail the good, the bad and the imperfect.
