While designing our home, we consider the aesthetics which are easy on the eye as an important component of style and we term it as ‘interior design’. But have you ever given thought to comfort and function of your home, your home should be like an oasis which makes you feel comfortable and takes you away from the stress of the outside world.
Many items are now available in the market like furniture especially those which are both stylish and functional at the same time. You have to compromise with a little give and take so that you maintain a perfect balance, making your home look stylish at the same time seeing that you don’t compromise on the comfort and function of your home.
Consider a transitional style- There is what you call a transitional style which is a mix and match of traditionally modern décor style. The entire aesthetics of this focuses on creating a balance between style and comfort and usability. Transitional spaces focus on incorporating modern and traditional pieces in order to create a balanced space overall. As another trade mark of transitional style, try clean cut straight lines and simple styles, incorporate a lot of wood work and go in for neutral shades or tans and browns. Then add flair to your home by adding vintage or trendy elements.
Choose comfort/function where it counts- Make comfort a priority when it comes to overtly functional items like furniture to lounge on. You see a very stylish sofa but it is not comfortable to lounge on for a long time or is not practical then compromise on style and look for something else which is functional and looks good in that setup.
Infuse style with visual elements- After being sensible about function and comfort, add that zing to your home by trying to figure out how you can make your home look chic by adding some visual elements which speak for the stylish person in you. Find that space where the visual impact will be most effective, then create it by painting the wall or putting up some art or a wall hanging. Decorate the room; create an ambience by putting up stylish light fixtures or the right lighting effect which will something unique.
Buy what you desire- A stylishly done up prim room may not be your cup of tea, this is vice-versa, so buy what you find relaxing, something that speaks of your style. Buy something that fits your aesthetic and comfort levels not because it is a new fad.
The way a room feels is as important as the way it looks. You may have a room with the best looking furniture but is uncomfortable to lounge on- then it is just a waste. Balance all the elements as to your needs and personal style, and you will love the feel and the look.
