Union Urban Ministry Announces the Names of 98 Smart City Aspirants

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project of developing 100 Smart Cities across India has always been on NDA government’s top priority list. The dream seems to be inching closer to reality now. Recently, Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu announced the list of the names of 98 smart cities in the country. Out of these 98, 13 nominations are bagged by Uttar Pradesh, 10 by Maharashtra and 12 by the state of Tamil Nadu.

To support this ambitious scheme, the center has decided to allocate 100 crores to each smart city on yearly basis. The list consists of 18 urban areas that hold tourism and cultural importance, 24 business and economic hubs and 24 state capitals. A clear sign of India’s growth has come forward as more than 60 small towns have been noted as Smart City aspirants. These 98 smart cities will cover about 35% of India’s total urban population and is expected to give a more decent lifestyle to these people. [Read more…]
