Upgraded Rural Housing Scheme Gets Cabinet Nod

Providing roof over the heads of all Indians is the motto of our government and we are here to talk about the next step taken in the direction of ‘Housing for All by 2022’. Recently, the government has made some amendments to the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin, which was earlier known as Indira Awas Yojana. This rural housing scheme looks forward to build one crore pucca houses over a period of three years at an estimated cost of 82,000 crores. This will be a great boost for the struggling rural economy. The revamped plan has already received government nod; it has started from April 1 and will continue till March 2018-19.

The scheme aims at offering financial assistance to the rural families for the construction of pucca houses. It applies to the families who do not own a house and also to those who live in extremely worn out homes. The assistance fund has also been enhanced from the previous time.
