Try to find out from the neighbors, do a recce of the area and see the safety angle. Profile your neighborhood; try to figure out what you are looking for in your area. If you have kids or are planning to have, find out about the schools or educational institutes in the area. How far do you have to go for your day to day needs? These values account to the conveniences you will get in the neighborhood and will also raise the value of your property.

See the availability of transport and the infrastructure around you. Do you want a historic area or a newly developed modern neighborhood? The newly developed areas will have more modern facilities. If you are shifting to a new locality within the same city, you would be pretty much aware about the areas.
