Gardening is a very relaxing exercise. It brings you closer to nature and also rewards you with beautiful fragrant flowers and a fresh bountiful harvest of fruits and vegetables. The three basic elements necessary for gardening are sunshine, water and good soil. We all know this as this was a part of our school curriculum. But how to use them and get rewarding results is a whole other story. For getting good results, you have to go an extra mile and gain some knowledge on gardening.First, make up your mind as to what you want to grow. Container or potted plants are the best ways to get started with and to satisfy your own green thumb. Whether you have a large land or a small balcony in the city, potted plants would be good. The containers can be made of terracotta, wood, metal or cement. All these materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. You have to keep in mind your geographical region in choosing the material. Wooden containers would not be the best bet for rainy damp places. A wisely chosen planter will help your plants stay healthy for a longer period of time.
After you have made up your mind as to what you want to grow and have planted the same in a pot or garden, next important thing is water. The very essence of life is equally important for the plants as well. Deciding on the adequate moisture level of the plants is very important; too little and too much water, both are harmful. Learn what type of plant it is and water accordingly.
Next thing is soil. Right kind of soil is also important. Learn a bit about the soil in your area, do a little analysis to provide the right fertilizer for the saplings. Don’t go overboard with the fertilizers. The source of light- the sun- is really important to get the best out of your garden. The sunlight requirement also differs from plant to plant. So you have to know your plants.
So be it a few potted plants or a small vegetable patch in your backyard or a perfectly tended landscaped garden, the basic requirements change as per the variety of plant. Gardening is a very relaxing hobby and makes you feel proud every time you look at your work, at the blooming flowers, the sweet scent.
