Less than a week left for the joyous day of Christmas! So, what are your plans, this year? Shopping for decor stuff can be expensive; moreover, you would not know how to utilize those decor items in daily life. All expensive decor pieces like banners, artificial garlands for mantel, ribbons, stockings, etc. will lay unused until the next Christmas and New Year Eve. So, why not gather your friends or maybe involve your children and design some DIY Christmas decor items.
Here are a few decor ideas you can try out at home:
Ice-Cream Stick Snowflakes
Remember your childhood craft projects with ice-cream sticks? Your ‘skills’ won’t go waste. You can create the classic snowflake design with ice-cream sticks and place it on the doors and windows. Just trace the design on a piece of paper, glue the sticks to the stencil. Once done, cut the corners and paint in white. Voila!
Spherical String Lightings
DIY string lights are easy to make and less time-consuming. All you need is a few balloons, strings, glue and water colors. Firstly, inflate the balloons to a size you want your string light to be, having varied sizes of spheres would also be a good idea. Now using glue with a brush, wrap the gluey strings around the balloons. Once dried, color the strings and finally prick the balloon and you are left with spherical decor pieces. You can use it for lighting or just as a simple decor piece.
Wine Bottle Vases
You can decorate the empty wine bottles to create a unique kind of vases. Paint in white from the outsides. Add coats of paint until the glass covers. You can also tie a red ribbon around the neck of the bottle. To give a 3D look the decorative piece, you can also sprinkle sand on the bottle and once it is dried paint in your favorite color. Instead of the simple flowers. Place a wire of Christmas baubles for a change.
Handmade Pom Poms
Paper poms poms are the essence of any celebration but during the festive season shopkeepers sell them at exorbitant rates. You can encourage your kid’s to make their own paper pom poms. Don’t forget to hang the same above your Christmas table or on the Christmas tree.
Paper bunting is also a great way of festive decor in India. Different shapes of paper cuttings are made, painted, decorated and strung on a wire to be hanged like a banner on the door or windows. One can also paint unused pool noodles to create giant candy sticks.
Christmas is the time to bring out all your crafty creativities and make it merrier than ever. So start now, the eve is just round the corner.
