In order to speed up the work of the much awaited Jewar airport, Ministry of Civil aviation finally gave its In- Principle nod to construct the Greenfield Noida International airport. To oversee timely development of the airport, the center has set up a Project Monitoring and Implementation Committee so that YEIDA can initiate the procedure of Land Acquisition.
Prabhat Kumar, Chairman, YEIDA, posted this information on Twitter and wrote, “Happy to inform that Steering Committee headed by Secretary Civil Aviation, GOI today in its meeting considered proposal for In-Principle approval of Jewar Airport and have granted In- Principle approval. Another important milestone successfully cleared by Jewar Airport.”
Few days back, the UP government has also formed an expert committee to complete the necessary formalities of land acquisition along the Yamuna Expressway. The seven-member committee will take meeting with farmers of the villages where agricultural land needs to be acquired. Once the process will be completed, district administration will start the land acquisition process by June.
Train links to connect Delhi and Jewar Airport
At the same time, the state government is also planning to build a dedicated Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) to ensure a smooth connectivity between the two airports. The government is currently examining the feasibility of the Jewar RRTS corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to the proposed airport site. Three RRTS routes have already been approved from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut, Panipat, and Alwar.
Apart from this route, Noida metro authority is also planning to extend the Greater Noida metro to the Greenfield International Noida airport. Another direct link between IGI Airport and Jewar airport is also in planning for which train transportation is amongst the various possibilities.
Giving further information on the connectivity, Prabhat Kumar said, “We are working simultaneously on connectivity to Jewar airport and the timely completion of its first phase in the financial year 2022-23. We have asked the National Capital Region Transport Corporation to examine the feasibility of having a separate line from Sarai Kale Khan to Jewar airport. This rail will be faster than metro due to fewer stations and is thus well suited to reach the airport.”
The Jewar airport project is one of the most ambitious projects till date for both center as well as the state. Both the governments are working in sync on the project for both connectivity and airport construction. It has been revealed that both YEIDA officials and Ministry of Civil aviation want to lay the foundation stone of the airport by October 2018.
