Decorating a home is not a rocket science; nor is it everyone’s cup of tea. Only those who have perfect imagination can strike a chord with the vision of their dream home. However, when we start with the task of interior decor, we largely pay attention to the important areas and ignore some corners. But these ignored spots of your home do need your attention.
So if you have forgotten to decorate these areas of your house, it’s not too late. Go ahead and embellish them now:
The Ceiling- You might think that the ceiling does not need any decoration because people do not look up at it. But, much to everyone’s surprise, ceilings make one-sixth of your home. So the interior design professionals advise you to pay attention to the ceiling. It is a vast space that is still like a blank canvas; you can decorate it in a way that it changes the entire feel of the room. Wallpaper, patterns or even metallic lustre can be smartly given to the ceiling.
Interior Doors- It’s not just the main door that needs decoration, interior doors also demand your attention. Most of the interior doors are plain and nondescript thus pulling the charm out of it. You can paint the interior doors in quirky colors to give a hint of what is inside the room. For example, the door to the kids room can be done in shiny pink or sky blue. You can also keep the door decor consistent throughout the house to maintain the flow.
That Awkward Corner- Every home has that weird little corner which is good for nothing as hardly any furniture fits there. Such corners, when left blank, become more of an eyesore. Instead of sticking a chair in there, you can get custom made furniture for the corner. Corner study tables are in vogue these days. Buy them and make that corner your study area.
Stair Landing- You take a flight of stairs to reach the upper floors, simply ignoring the space where the stairs end. If you have considerable space over there, you can post a painting on the wall or place an accent rug that follows the theme of your decor. Adorn it smartly so that everyone slows down and catches a glimpse of your creativity.
The Mantel- The mantelpiece i.e., the area above and around a fireplace also demands decor attention. Even if the fireplace isn’t working, you can still decorate the mantel to create a statement. Stones, air plants and candles will beautify the place.
Overhead Lighting- This is the jewellery of the house and improves the accent of your decor. Choose an overhead light that comes as an embellishment of the room’s focal point.
Below and Behind the Furniture- The area below the furniture will usually be a blank space like the floor of the entire house. To differentiate it, you can either place it on a rug or opt for a bold palette for the legs of the furniture. If you have space behind the couch or sofa, place a table next to it, keep some vases and books and there you go!
Other areas that are forgotten include the insides of drawers and desks, laundry room and kitchen cabinets. Spare some time to decorate these forgotten spots. Happy Homemaking!
